------------------------------------
1. Initial Midex driver installation
------------------------------------

The automatic Midex driver update can also be used for
a initial Midex driver installation. You only have to double
click on the 'Midex8_V1_80' program icon BEFORE the Midex
is connected to the computer.
After the 'Midex8_V1_80' program has completed it is not
necessary to restart the computer. Simply connect the Midex
via USB cable with the computer and follow the instructions
of the Hardware Wizard.

Please have a look at the Windows XP notes described
in section 2 of this document.

Please keep your Windows Installation CD ready because
the Hardware Wizard has to add some standard components.
It depends on your Windows installation if it becomes
    necessary or not.

Finally, Windows has to be restarted.

----------------------------------
2. Update from older Midex drivers
----------------------------------

Please remove any Midex driver CD from the CD-ROM drive.

Double click on the 'Midex8_V1_80' program icon to install
the new Midex 8 USB Midi driver.
Please follow the steps described below after the automatic
installation procedure.

a.) Interrupt all Midex USB connections.
(If the Midex is connected to an external Power supply,
       please remove that connection, too.)

b.) Restart the computer.

c.) Restore all Midex USB connections.
(If the Midex was connected to an external Power supply,
       please restore that connection first.)

Note: It is very important to shut down the Midex by
removing the USB cable and external power supply
during the driver update. Any new Midex firmware
would not be activated if this step was ignored.

The Windows Hardware Wizard will automatically install
the new drivers after the system has been restarted and
the Midex USB connections are restored.

Please keep your Windows Installation CD ready because
the Hardware Wizard has to add some standard components.
It depends on your Windows installation if it becomes
    necessary or not.

---------------------------------------------------------
    Windows 2000/XP only:
---------------------------------------------------------

Windows XP Hardware Wizard will pop up the 'Welcome to the
Found New Hardware Wizard' dialog for the 'Steinberg Midex 8
Firmware Loader' driver.

a.) >>> Windows XP only <<<
Accept the default option 'Install the software
automatically (Recommended)' and click the 'Next' button.

b.) Click the 'Continue Anyway' button in the following dialog.

Note: Although this driver has not yet been through
the formal Microsoft approval system to obtain
a 'digital signature' that it is approved for
Windows, Steinberg have made all reasonable
efforts to test this driver for full compatibility.
Just because there is no 'digital signature' does
not mean the driver is in anyway not complying with
the driver specification and therefore it's no
          reason to abort the installation.

c.) >>> Windows XP only <<<
Click the 'Finish' button in the 'Completing the Found New
Hardware Wizard' dialog to finish the driver update.

Repeat these steps for the 'Steinberg Midex 8 USB Midi Driver'.

----------------------------------
3. Cubase VST MROS updates
----------------------------------

Some of the Cubase VST components have to be updated
before running the Midex driver. The 'Midex8_V1_80'
driver updater already contains these components and will
update them at the designated places.

If you install any Cubase VST version earlier than
5.1 R2 after this driver installation you should run
the 'UpdMros' installer to automatically update the
appropriate components.

-----------------
4. Driver History
-----------------

Version 1.0.1.1

* This version needs less USB bandwidth, so up to 4 Midex 8
devices can be connected to one USB host controller.

* Hanging notes no longer occur if the Midex is connected
to a Nord Modular Synth, and the Nord sends SysEx on another port.

* A system crash, which occurs if RPN or NRPN Midi Controller were
sent to the Midex by Cubase, is eliminated.

-----------------

Version 1.5.0.0

* The driver is prepared to support up to 8 Midex 8 devices.
Because of the Midex USB bandwidth consumption, each USB host
controller is able to support up 4 Midex 8 if there is no other
USB device connected.

>> There are some OS related limitations for other applications
   than Cubase VST or Nuendo.

                | Win98SE | WinMe | Win2000 | WinXP
   -----------------------------------------------------
   No. of Midex | 8 Ins | no | 10 Ins | 32 Ins
   Midi Ports | 8 Outs | limits | 10 Outs | 32 Outs
   -----------------------------------------------------

Cubase VST and Nuendo will support all Midex Midi
   ports of all Midex devices.

* This driver supports multi client cabability.
More than one application can use the same physical Midi port
at same time.

>> Windows 98SE and Windows Millenium are not prepared to
support multi client access to WDM Midi driver.
For this reason the Midex Midi ports can be shared
with Cubase VST or Nuendo and only ONE other application.
Windows 2000 and Windows XP have no restrictions.

-----------------

Version 1.5.1.0

* A system crash, which occurs while updating to Windows XP,
is eliminated.

>> We recommend to deinstall the Midex driver before updating
to Windows XP. After the Windows XP installation is completed,
run the automatic Midex Update Program to activate the Midex
   driver again.

* A system crash, which occurs after an unsafe removal of the Midex
under Windows XP, is eliminated.
An unsafe removal means, the Midex USB connection is interrupted without
stopping the device by using the 'Safely Remove Hardware' utility.

* This version corrects the behaviour of the Midex Midi ports
that were visible to Cubase VST or Nuendo but did not transport
any Midi data.

* This driver package also contains a new version (2.0.9.0) of
'SetupMME.exe'. It is a Cubase VST component which determines how
many Midi inputs and outputs the system has available.
Older versions would not list all Midex Midi ports if more than
one Midex are installed in the system.
The 'UpdMros' installer also contains the new version
of 'SetupMME.exe'.

-----------------

Version 1.7.0.0

* This driver consumes less CPU performance under Windows XP than
previous versions.

* An error, which occurs while transmitting SysEx is solved.
(This affects especially to Cubase SX and Nuendo.)

* Unintentional MIDI jitter, which occurs while transmitting a large
amount of MIDI data, is eliminated.

-----------------

Version 1.8.0.0

* This driver package contains a new version (5.1.9.7) of
'mros32.dll'. It compensates for a MIDI to Audio drift on
several Win2K or WinXP systems.

* Older Midex 8 driver packages updated the wrong 'mros32.dll'
for Cubasis products. This is fixed with this version.

* Midex 8 devices with the Serial Number 336306504 (or greater)
needs to run this driver package because of a new Midex 8 hardware
revision. Older versions of this driver will not work with
these Midex 8 devices.
